Advance care planning is a process of thinking, talking and planning for the care and treatment you would like as you approach the end of your life. There are some great resources to help you get started on their website.
Cancer Society of New Zealand
The Cancer Society of NZ is a non profit organisation which receives no direct financial support from Government. Funding comes only from donations and other fundraising activities. The Cancer Society’s goal is to reduce the number of people who develop cancer and ensure the best possible quality of life for people with cancer. The Society has six regional divisions and a national office in Wellington. Each division raises its own funds. The range of services varies around the country. Along with paid staff, the Society has a large number of volunteers.
Hospice New Zealand
Hospice New Zealand is a national organisation, which supports and assists hospices to care for the terminally ill. It is responsible for ensuring that these patients have access to quality hospice palliative care.
MidCentral District Health Board
MidCentral District Health Board is a funder and provider of health and disability services in the wider Manawatu Region.
Relay For Life
Relay for Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programmes of the Cancer Society of New Zealand. During the event, teams of people gather at schools, sportsfields, or parks and take turns walking or running laps. Each team keeps at least one team member on the track at all times.
Skylight
Skylight is a national service that provides specialised support to children, young people and their families and whānau through change, loss, trauma and grief. They also equip, train and support those wanting to assist them, such as friends or family members, community volunteers and professionals.
Work and Income
Work and Income may be able to assist with additional support for those who qualify.
